The prevalence of American and British media

Considering the media landscape in Western countries, one may observe an enormous impact of “the English”, apparently emerging from post-war time. One might mention, for example, the influence of American films joined to the common idea of “Hollywood”, which is very superficial, but includes a bunch of American productions.
This is also true for Germany. English media are very prevalent, as, for example, the majority of films shown in cinema are apparently English origin, as well as, in addition, television, since some shows are either itself imported or their concepts. Another aspect in this case and maybe the most important is social media, which are all American, but not often included in the term of “media” itself. Their prevalence is striking, not only in Germany, but in the whole world. Besides playing an important role in daily lives, their appearance show people a world that was not visible before, since world can be followed easily.
Considering that, it seems quite difficult to find a general attitude towards this whole entirety of media. There are some critical voices as well as people who are so much into, for example, social media, that any criticism would bring no benefit. Moreover, American and British media became so common and general in Germany, that it would be very unlikely to get out.
