How will the problem of financing print media be solved in the future?

I think it´s safe to say that the emergence of modern technology has shaped the news business in a way that could unlikely have been envisioned in earlier decades.

Traditional journalism in print media has always been a source of reliability. You can be sure that what you read in a newspaper in ink, has been researched and crafted out properly. Moreover, nowadays that „fake news“ are an important topic in media reception and newspapers like the New York Times hire fact examiners to ensure that Donald Trump doesn´t flood the public mind with his so-called alternative facts - which usually don´t tell the truth but miraculously fit his political agenda - you easily get the impression that relying on traditional print media as a central source of information is vital for a functioning modern society. However, traditional journalism cannot survive if not ways are found to finance the classical way of production in print media.

For middle-aged or pensioner people, print media likely will be a common way of perceiving news and developments on a society-wide or worldwide scale even in a further technically advanced future.
It feels natural to them, and a lot of people seem to like the feeling of real paper in their hands, rather than touchscreens. So there is at least hope that people from those generations will buy traditional printed newspapers in future times. However, the rise of digital media is threatening print sales, and print media is dependent on regular buyers. This won´t be a problem if a big part of society consists of middle-aged or older people, but what happens, when the bigger part of society is using only digital media in future?

A solution could be to connect print and digital media. For example, that newspapers are fitted with QR codes that can be read by smartphone cameras and provide excusive content on the newspapers digital channels that is of verified information. The connection of print and digital media in a way like this, could be a possible solution for the crisis of print media.
